Local SEO for medical clinics: the short answer
Local SEO for medical clinics means making Google confident that your clinic is real, relevant and trusted in its area. In practice: a verified Google Business Profile with the right specialty category and every service listed, one website page per specialty and per doctor that names the city and district, the same name, address and phone everywhere, a steady flow of genuine reviews, and clinic schema on the website. Most clinics see map and organic gains within two to six months.
When someone in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam searches for a clinic, Google can show your clinic in four places: the ads at the top, the map with three clinics, the normal results below, and increasingly an AI answer. Ads can be bought. The other three have to be earned, and that is what this guide covers. For a general version for any business, see our complete local SEO guide for Saudi Arabia.
The four places your clinic can appear
| Place on Google | What decides it | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Ads at the top | Budget, keywords, ad and page quality | Days |
| Map with three clinics | Relevance, distance and prominence of your Business Profile | Weeks to a few months |
| Normal results | Helpful pages per specialty, links, site speed | Three to six months |
| AI answers (Google and ChatGPT) | Clear, consistent facts about your clinic across the web | Two to six months |
Step 1: Get the Google Business Profile right
- Verify the profile with the exact clinic name on your licence and sign. No keywords in the name.
- Pick the most specific primary category, such as Medical clinic, Dental clinic, Dermatologist or Pediatrician, and add secondary categories only for real departments.
- List every service with a short description, add opening hours including Ramadan hours, and add attributes such as wheelchair access when true.
- Upload real photos: entrance from the street, parking, reception, rooms and team.
Our Google My Business service handles this setup and the monthly upkeep.
Step 2: Build one page per specialty and per doctor
A single “services” page cannot rank for dermatology, dentistry and paediatrics at once. Give each specialty its own page with the city and district in the title and first paragraph, the doctors who provide it, what a first visit includes and a short FAQ. Give each doctor a profile page with specialty, classification, languages and the services they provide. Link the Business Profile to the matching page.
Step 3: Keep your details identical everywhere
Use the same clinic name, address, district and phone number on your website, Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Instagram, Snapchat, insurance network directories and health portals that list you. Mismatched details make Google less sure which listing is right.
Step 4: Earn reviews every week
Reviews are part of prominence, and they decide which clinic in the map gets the call. Ask after every good visit, send a direct link on WhatsApp, and reply to every review without mentioning health details. Our post on getting more Google reviews has a ready routine.
Step 5: Add clinic schema and fix the basics
Add structured data (for example MedicalClinic or Dentist, which are types of LocalBusiness) with your name, address, phone, hours and geo coordinates. Make sure pages load fast on mobile, have a clear call button and WhatsApp button, and offer Arabic and English versions that link to each other.
Step 6: Help AI answers describe you correctly
ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers draw on what the web says about you. Clear specialty pages, consistent details, doctor profiles, reviews that mention treatments, and mentions on trusted local sites all help. Our article on getting recommended by ChatGPT goes deeper.
Step 7: Measure what matters
Each month, check Business Profile calls, direction requests and website clicks, Search Console clicks for your specialty pages, and how many new patients say they found you on Google. A higher position that brings no calls is not a win.
A real example
For the aesthetic dermatology clinic of Dr Alaa Zidan, we built a new website with one page per treatment, doctor information, FAQs and schema, and kept the clinic’s details consistent across the web. Within the first 3 months, Google search and ChatGPT were bringing 30+ patients a month with no ad spend. See the case study.
Common mistakes clinics make
- Keyword stuffing the profile name, which risks suspension.
- One profile for several branches instead of one verified profile per location.
- All specialties on one page, so none of them ranks.
- English-only website when most local searches are in Arabic.
- Buying reviews, which can get them removed and the profile restricted.

It is the work that makes Google confident your clinic is real, relevant and trusted in its area, so it appears in the Google Maps top 3, in normal results and in AI answers when people nearby search for your specialty.
How long does local SEO take for a clinic?
Google Maps improvements often show within weeks to a few months, and organic and AI visibility usually build over two to six months. Our dermatology client reached 30+ patients a month from Google and ChatGPT within 3 months of the new website.
Does a clinic need a page for each specialty?
Yes. One general services page cannot rank for several specialties. Each specialty and each doctor should have a page that names the city and district.
